2010 is the United Nations "International Year of Biodiversity" and Kent County Council are supporting this with a campaign that will provide Kent’s residents and visitors with the opportunity to learn more about the county’s wildlife and get involved.
Over the coming year, “Kent’s Wildlife 2010” will be highlighting wildlife through the seasons, finding out what you love about Kent’s wildlife and organising some fantastic events and activities. A web page has been set up that will provide updates on the campaign: www.kent.gov.uk/kentwildlife
Wildlife recording is an important part of this work; unless we know what’s out there, how can we go about protecting it? Kent’s Wildlife 2010 is providing an introduction to wildlife recording, by asking people to send in records of animals and plants which will be featured as a “species of the month”.
Species of the month will feature animals and plants that can be seen in gardens, parks and school grounds, but “Kent’s Wildlife 2010” will also be celebrating our wonderful countryside and coast, rich in unusual habitats and species. The campaign, is also aiming to show the importance of biodiversity as a natural resource, as well as highlighting some of the pressures it faces.
Programmes such as Kent's Coastal Week and Kent Goes Wild will be celebrating Kent's Wildlife and new events are being added.
Please take the opportunity to look at the website to find out more.
